Author(s): Mohammad Shoeb Ansari
Abstract: This research paper examines the historical development, organizational structure, operational performance, and challenges faced by the Harduaganj Thermal Power Station (HTPS) in Uttar Pradesh, India, from its inception in the early 1940s to 1989. As a key unit under the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board (UPSEB), HTPS was established to meet the growing power demands of western Uttar Pradesh. The study analyzes the station’s historical evolution, administrative framework, power generation performance, and socio-economic and technical challenges. A table of yearly power generation highlights operational trends. Key findings point to issues such as inadequate coal supply, financial constraints, labor unrest, and environmental concerns, with recommendations for improving efficiency and resource utilization.
