Relationship between time management practices and academic performance of students

Author(s): Surender Kumar

Abstract: Time management plays a crucial role in shaping students’ academic performance and maintaining their overall well-being, as it helps them balance studies, responsibilities, and personal life effectively. Ineffective management of time often results in academic stress, procrastination, and poor performance, whereas effective time utilization can enhance productivity, reduce pressure, and promote a strong balance between academic and personal life. Study explores the association between time management practices and academic performance among students, with particular emphasis on daily planning, work-life balance and gender differences in time management behavior. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach to examine how students organize and allocate their time for academic and personal activities. Key variables considered include overall time management practices, planning of daily activities, perceived academic performance, balance between academic work and personal life. Data were collected by means of a structured questionnaire designed to assess students’ time management behaviors and perceptions of academic performance and work-life balance. The study indicates that students who engage in effective planning and organization of their daily activities tend to demonstrate strong balance between academic responsibilities and personal life. The results also reveal notable differences in time management practices based on gender, suggesting that demographic factors may influence how students manage their time. The study recommends that educational institutions incorporate time management training and skill-based programs to support students in achieving academic success and personal well-being.
