Author(s): Kasina Naga Suryanarayana
Abstract: This review examines the significant growth of e-commerce from 2010 to 2023 and its profound implications for consumer behavior. Over the past decade, e-commerce has evolved rapidly, driven by advancements in mobile commerce, personalization, social commerce, and the adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. These developments have fundamentally transformed how consumers interact with online platforms, leading to new patterns in purchasing behavior, customer expectations, and brand loyalty. The review highlights the impact of mobile devices in facilitating on-the-go shopping and the role of personalized experiences in increasing customer satisfaction and retention. Social commerce, the integration of social media with online shopping, has also emerged as a powerful tool for influencing consumer decisions, particularly among younger demographics. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for the rapid acceleration of e-commerce, permanently altering the retail landscape. The discussion interprets these trends in the context of existing literature, emphasizing the need for businesses to adapt to these changes and for policymakers to consider the broader implications for consumer privacy and data security. The review concludes by identifying areas for future research, particularly the long-term effects of artificial intelligence and the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in this dynamic environment. Overall, this article provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of e-commerce and its ongoing evolution, offering valuable insights for both academic researchers and industry professionals.
