A qualitative study on golf participation motivation in Vietnam

Abstract: This study was to explore what motivates Vietnamese to participate in golf. This study collected data by using qualitative research methods, 109 subjects (convenience sampling) surveyed with open-ended questions. Thematic coding and Triangulation were used to coding the collected data. The collected data were analyzed by adopting an Inductive Content Analysis method, the frequency and ratio of factors were calculated using IBM SPSS Statistics 20 cross-tabulation. The conclusions are as follows. First, the study subjects viewed factors related to enjoyment and career as the main motives in golf participation. There is a difference in motivation to participate in golf by age, the older the subject is, the more motivated to join golf for health and social relationships. Study subjects' age and monthly income are believed to be related. These results can be used as basic data that can help Vietnamese golf development by understanding the relationship that Vietnamese participate in golf.
