Food security initiatives in India: A comprehensive review

Abstract: India has been striving to address the critical issue of food security for its vast population through various programs aimed at reducing hunger and ensuring access to nutritious food. This paper reviews major food security initiatives like the Public Distribution System (PDS), Midday Meal Scheme, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and the National Food Security Act (NFSA), analyzing their effectiveness, challenges, and state-level variations in implementation. Using national-level statistical data and case studies, this paper highlights the successes and areas for improvement in ensuring food security for all.
