The role of divination in strategic decision-making among CXOs

Author(s): Sidhharrth S Kumaar

Abstract: Divining techniques including astrology, numerology, and tarot have long been applied in both personal and corporate settings to negotiate ambiguity and provide insights. These approaches are being embraced by CXOs in the business sector more and more to augment conventional data-driven approaches in strategic decision-making. This paper investigates how CXOs include divination into recruiting, market entry, and investment analysis. The study used a mixed-method approach, comprising 500 CXOs' quantitative surveys and 50 CXOs across sectors' qualitative interviews. According to the results, 62% of CXOs use divination; numerology (74%) and astrology (81%) are the most often used techniques. Where consumers expressed great satisfaction and success rates (85%-86%), divination is especially successful in branding (80%), market entrance (80%), and investment decisions (70%). Younger (30-40 year) female CXOs as well as in creative sectors including media, technology, and retail find adoption more frequent. Notwithstanding its increasing popularity, issues still exist including doubts regarding reliability (48%), lack of qualified practitioners (60%), and worries on public opinion (68%). The study comes to the conclusion that although divination offers special insights and emotional clarity, its application into corporate strategy calls for balancing conventional methods, handling credibility concerns, and guaranteeing cultural sensitivity to optimize its usefulness.
