Sustainable supply chain resilience in emerging markets SMEs: An integrated SDG framework

Author(s): Momtaz Ahmad Hashimi and MA Azeem

Abstract:
This review paper seeks to investigate the integration of sustainable supply chain resilience in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within emerging markets and align with the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By synthesizing the existing literature, this study would identify key sustainable practices employed by SMEs and examine how these practices help to build resilience amid various challenges. The literature review reveals that while SMEs have made strides towards sustainable supply chain management, some important barriers remain, including limited resources, regulatory constraints, and inadequate awareness of the SDGs.
In addition, the results suggest that leveraging digital technologies and improving cooperation among key parties can be effective in both sustainability and resilience outcomes. This paper reveals the necessity for policymakers to support SMEs in integrating sustainability into their supply chain practices, which not only have a positive impact on their competitive advantage but also contribute to broader sustainable development objectives. By providing detailed information about the variables between sustainability, resilience, and the SDGs, this paper offers critical understanding for both practitioners and academics and identifies key opportunity areas for future research.
