Determinants of entrepreneurial resilience of MSMEs.

Author(s): M Marimuthu, VP Syed Abdullahil Hammad and S Jafar Sathik

Abstract: This study explores the critical factors influencing entrepreneurial resilience among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). With MSMEs playing a pivotal role in economic development and employment generation, their ability to sustain and thrive in uncertain conditions is of utmost importance. The research investigates seven key determinants: financial inclusion, financial literacy, government support, resource bricolage, technology acceptance, social capital, and compliance costs. A quantitative research approach was adopted, with data collected from 75 MSME entrepreneurs using a structured questionnaire. Respondents were selected through simple random sampling to ensure unbiased representation across diverse sectors. The results were examined using the chi-square test and cross-tabulation to identify significant connections between the selected factors and entrepreneurial resilience. The study revealed that access to finance, strong social networks, adaptive resource use, and supportive policy frameworks substantially foster resilience. The insights gained can inform policymakers, development agencies, and business support services in designing targeted interventions that strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This research contributes to the growing literature on MSME sustainability and offers a practical roadmap for enhancing resilience among small business owners in emerging economies like India.
