Digitalization prospects of Non-NBR tax in Bangladesh economy: A study in Benapole Pourashava
Author(s): Sujan Sarker
Abstract: This quantitative study assessed the prospects of digitalizing Non-NBR (National Board of Revenue) tax systems within the administrative jurisdiction of Benapole Pourashava, Bangladesh. The research aimed to evaluate stakeholder readiness, infrastructural capacity, and perceived advantages and challenges associated with transitioning to digital tax platforms. Between 2018 and 2023, 100 randomly chosen residents and company owners were given standardized questionnaires to complete in order to collect primary data, while municipal records were used to acquire secondary data. The results showed that although most respondents used manual tax payment methods, they were highly aware of and interested in digital solutions. As long as major obstacles like poor infrastructure, gaps in digital literacy, and security concerns were overcome, a sizable section of the populace had access to cellphones and showed a readiness to embrace digital platforms. The analysis came to the conclusion that Benapole Pourashava had a good chance of starting the digitalization of non-NBR taxes, which, if done well, could greatly improve revenue collection, convenience, and transparency.
