The antecedents of academic entrepreneurial ecosystem across academia: A literary exploration

Abstract: To stimulate and support the entrepreneurial activities, academia plays an important role by providing a unique environment to students which helps them to learn about the theoretical aspects and practical applications of the ‘entrepreneurship’. The process of learning-by-doing within the entrepreneurial university has acted as a determinant of development of entrepreneurial intentions and potential career choice development like startups, venture creation and thus employment generation within the local economy. Further, it is known globally, that university cooperation, collaboration and integration with some external systems definitely facilitate and support in term of finance, R&D, technology, networks and commercialization results. Thus, infusing entrepreneurship and experiential learning into the roots of education system are much valuable than pursuing traditional educational system. Under this context, this paper explores important factors/antecedents of creation of entrepreneurial university and also the potential areas of action encountering significant challenges in terms of creating entrepreneurial ecosystem with in academia. Therefore, the areas on which any university/academia can assess their entrepreneurial prowess includes the factors namely-leadership & governance, organisational capacity, entrepreneurial teaching and learning, in-house entrepreneurship windows, relationship for knowledge exchange, as an internationalized institution and measuring the impact of entrepreneurial university which have been explored through extensive literature review in the preceding sections of the paper.
