Author(s): Harsha B and Amruthavarshini V
Abstract:
Purpose: This study examines the role of green entrepreneurship in fostering sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing socio-economic outcomes among farmers in Karnataka, India. It investigates the drivers, barriers, and impacts of eco-friendly agricultural ventures within diverse agro-climatic contexts.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Employing a descriptive and exploratory research design, primary data were collected from 200 green entrepreneurs across four districts of Karnataka—Bengaluru Rural, Kodagu, Vijayapura, and Dharwad—using structured questionnaires. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression to test hypothesized relationships between institutional support, market access, and entrepreneurial success.
Findings: Green entrepreneurship significantly enhances farmers' income (β=0.47, p<0.001), with institutional support (β=0.38, p<0.01) and market access (β=0.42, p<0.001) serving as critical enablers. Environmental sustainability outcomes, including improved soil health and water conservation, were positively associated with green practices. However, financial constraints, certification complexities, and fragmented supply chains emerged as major barriers.
Originality/Value: This study provides empirical evidence on the economic and environmental benefits of green entrepreneurship in a regionally diverse agricultural setting. It contributes to the literature by demonstrating how policy frameworks, market linkages, and institutional ecosystems can facilitate sustainable agricultural transitions in developing economies.Pages: 1442-1447 | Views: 44 | Downloads: 26
