The rise of remote work and its economic impact on urban business center in India

Author(s): Ritanjali Swain and Indira Yashwant Ausare

Abstract: The emergence of remote work has profoundly transformed conventional workplace dynamics, especially affecting urban business hubs. Initiated by technological progress and hastened by the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work has resulted in changes to commuting habits, demand for commercial real estate, and local economies. As companies adjust to flexible work arrangements, downtown regions are experiencing decreased foot traffic, shifts in consumer behavior, and changing service requirements. This research examines the economic implications of this shift, concentrating on urban business centers and the opportunities and challenges they currently encounter in a more decentralized work setting.
